When are abstracts due?

The deadline for abstract submission is December 15, 2016. When submitting your abstract, you will be linked to the ExOrdo website where you will be asked to register (note: this “registration” applies only to abstract submission, not registration for the conference). Once registered at ExOrdo, the site will guide you through submission of your abstract.

Is there a “Guide for Authors”?

Yes. A complete guide can be found in the Call for Abstracts tab and as part of the abstract submission process on the ExOrdo site.

Are abstracts reviewed?

Yes, all abstracts will be reviewed as explained in the “Guide for Authors”. We anticipate informing authors of the results of the review process by March, 2017. The presenting author of each accepted abstract, either oral, poster or special session, must register for the conference, as must all attendees.

Will there be a conference program?

Yes. We anticipate finalizing the program by late May 2017. In a departure from past conferences there will be no paper program. The complete program will be available on the conference website (where it can be printed if desired). There will also be a smart phone app containing the program and other conference information.

Are there reduced fees for the conference?

The fee structure is presented on the registration page, with reduced fees for students, members of ISIE, Young Professionals of ISIE, and previous attendees at ISSST conferences. Non-members are encouraged to join ISIE in order to receive the reduced fee.

Is financial assistance available?

There are scholarships available for US students studying at any university or non-US students studying at a US university through the National Science Foundation (application can be made here). In addition ISIE has a fund to assist attendance at conferences with priority usually given to those from developing countries. Further information can be found at the ISIE website (

Can I skip the banquet?

Attendance at the banquet is not compulsory, but the non-separable cost is included in the registration fee. Besides, this is an opportunity to socialize with colleagues on a grand scale at one of the most popular locations in Chicago.

If I need to cancel after registering, how do I request a refund?

If you cancel before May 22, 2017, refund of the registration fee minus 25% processing fee will be processed after the conference.

How do I get to the conference venue?

Directions are provided under the “Travel” link.

How do I sign up for accommodations?

This information can be found under the “Accommodations” tab.

How do I request letter in support of obtaining a visa?

Consult the “Visa” tab on the conference website.

Will there be side trips to local points of interest?

Yes, several optional trips have been arranged (see “Optional Trips) for Monday afternoon. These must be reserved and paid for in advance. Trips for accompanying persons are also available on an ad hoc basis (see “Accompanying Persons Trips”). In addition, post conference trips to local “green” industries have also been planned.

What is the size of poster that I need to prepare for ISIE-ISSST 2017?

Posters will be mounted on posterboards that are 72" wide and 48" high. Supplies will be provided for mounting posters to the posterboards. Posters must be the size of the posterboard or smaller. The conference does not have a resolution or file type preference for online submission.”

When should I upload my oral presentation to ExOrdo?

Authors of abstracts accepted for oral presentations must submit their slides (ppt or pdf) to ExOrdo no later than June 22, 2017. This is necessary in order to minimize the turn-around time between speakers and sessions. Failure to submit slides by the due date means that the presentation must be given without visual aids. Once the final program is set, presentations can only be made in their assigned date/time slot. Authors not using slides are encouraged to submit a title/author(s) slide as a placeholder.
